Photography Project from NYC!

I want to talk about something very exciting thats been occupying my mind (and probably all around the world, too) right now.


今日は、最近の私の中での大ブーム、いや、もしかしたら世界中でブームになりつつあるかも？な、あるコトについて書きたいと思います。

I'm taking part in this fun project started in NYC by a young lady named Katie.
The project is called "new york shots" and the description is this;


"— leaving a disposable camera in the park. Katie buys a camera, secures it to a park bench with twine, and then simply waits to see what pictures random passer-by will take."

You can see that the concept is very simple but creative. And check out her video to get even more excited!

というのも、ニューヨークで、ケイティという若いお姉さんによって始められた一つのプロジェクトに参加することになりました。その名も”new york shots”といって、公園のベンチに使い捨てカメラを紐でくくりつけ、横に「これで好きなように１枚写真を撮ってください」というようなポスターを貼り、それを見た通行人がどんな写真を撮るかを現像してみて楽しむ、というとってもシンプルなもの。このビデオを見て、実際の様子をぜひ観てみてね。絶対おもしろいから！


So I found out about this project when I was just browsing KICKSTARTER webpage to see if there was any creative and exciting ideas.
Right when I read her page, I already started writing her an E-mail, asking if I could be part of her project by doing the same thing here in Tokyo.


このプロジェクトを知ったのは、キックスターターという、個人やグループが新しくて面白いアイディアをそれぞれ紹介し、協賛を募るというウェブサイトを見ていたとき。
彼女のページを見つけ、そのコンセプトを読むそばから、すでに私の指は彼女にメールを打っていました。「このプロジェクト、東京でもやらせてください！」と。


Her response was so quick and to the point.
If I were to summarize it, it would be;
"Yea! I'm gonna go ahead and send you a camera! Have fun with it!"


そして速攻彼女から返事が来た。
要約すると、「いいね！今からカメラを郵便で送るわ！じゃあ楽しんで！」
という、まさかの二つ返事。


I was quite surprised and amazed by her friendliness and by how she had already organized the process to effectively work with participants all around the world. Indeed, she has sent cameras to the volunteers in Switzerland, Germany, Japan, UK, Singapore, Australia, Italy, and a few cities in the US.


その、国をまたいでプロジェクトを広めることへの気軽さと、もうすでにプロセス化された海外の協力者との連携方法に驚き、感心した。あとで知ったことだけど、彼女はもうすでに私のところ（日本）以外にも、協力者が出たスイス、ドイツ、イギリス、シンガポール、オーストラリアと、アメリカ国内の他の都市へとカメラを送ったそう！


Isn't that amazing? How her "weekend journey at a local park" has now grown to be an international project with almost $2,500 funds though internet?


いやあ、これはすごいことになってきた。
ただの”地元の公園での週末のお楽しみ”が、いつのまにか世界的プロジェクトへ！
それだけじゃない。このプロジェクトに賛同した協賛者からのネット上での寄付が彼女のカメラ代、現像代、国際郵便代、etc　をまかなっているのです！
その寄付はもうすぐで日本円約２０万円に達します。

So her camera and good vibes arrived in an envelope across the Pacific, and "new york shots -in Tokyo-" has just started last Saturday!
I will blog about it once my part is done, which is the end of November.




ってことで、快く了解してくれた彼女から早速家に、封筒に入った使い捨てカメラがワクワクした期待と共に届きました。そして先週の土曜日、ついに東京でもこのプロジェクトが始まったのです〜〜。そのことについては、今月末にまたブログに書こうと思います！

Actually, she is about $570 away from making it to her pledge; to have an ART SHOW!!!

ケイティから”いいね！”と返事が来たその日から、このプロジェクトにこういう形で参加できているっていうことが嬉しくて幸せでたまらない。何かを一人で始めることは簡単だけど、そこに、ネットを回覧する何万人って人の前で誓いをし、見知らぬ人の寄付や期待が入ってくることで、このプロジェクトを続けることの責任感が一気に増したと思う。そんな中で、自分が純粋に楽しい！と思う気持ちを忘れずに、協賛者とうまく連携をとってこのプロジェクトを広めていっているケイティを心から尊敬します。
